How It Works

Prepare for Onboarding and Staff Handovers

A handover gives the next person the context to continue the work. Your business prepares priorities, process knowledge and system access; Covela coordinates employment and recruitment matters. Plan the handover when someone joins, takes leave or moves out of a role.

Before a New Person Starts

Name the manager who will introduce the work and answer questions. Prepare the tools, access and examples the person needs for their first tasks. Covela coordinates onboarding with you; your team explains its processes and how the person will work with colleagues.

  • Agree the first week’s priorities and introductions
  • Prepare role instructions and examples of completed work
  • Confirm access owners and the decisions requiring approval

What belongs in a handover?

Record current work, deadlines, open questions and the next action for each item. Link to the relevant documents in your approved systems and identify the person who can resolve an exception. Give the receiving person time to walk through the work and ask questions.

Leave and Staff Transitions

Identify urgent work and assign temporary owners when someone will be away. If a team member is leaving, contact Covela to discuss the employment transition and recruitment needs. Your business arranges changes to system access and decides how the immediate workload will be covered. Replacement timing and terms need to be confirmed.

Check That the Handover Worked

Ask the receiving person to explain the next steps and try a representative task with their manager available. Update the instructions where questions reveal missing context. Keep a named owner for unresolved items so they remain visible after the handover conversation.
